Italian 4 handled Vase

Description

Client's father told him that the vase was from the 17th century.  The piece is signed by the artist ("S" over a narrow upside down "V") and marked "Italia."  Was the term "Italia" used back then?  Any thoughts or information about this piece would be greatly appreciated.
