This desk and adjustable swivel chair were my paternal grandmother's when she was a child, born in 1905. There are no manufacturers marks other than a number on the underside of the chair seat, 38 362. I am not sure what wood it is made from.
The lid on the desk is a tambour not a roll-top and has the original pull. It has a black finish on the desktop surface similar to chalkboard, but it is very worn. The desk folds down. There are decals, one on the chair in good condition, and a damaged one on top of the desk. The legs of the desk are carved along the curves from top to bottom.
All the cubby holes are in good condition, none of the nails or screws are loose or protruding. The chair has had some rungs replaced.
My grandmother gave the set to me and I have had it since I was a child in the 1950's.
In addition to knowing an estimated value for insurance purposes, I would also like to know where it was made and by what company. Also, what do I use to clean it? I have always just dusted it, but it needs a good cleaning.
