This is a historic appraisal from our archive.
The chair appears to be hand carved. There are 9 spindles around the back of the seat and 2 more on the handle extension.
The finish is a dark stain but the wood grain shows through on the hand beveled seat. The upper half of the legs have carved 'bulbs' and ridges. The connecting supports are 'swollen' at the intersections.
The chair back spindles are fitted into the seat and entend through the one-piece bowed wooded carved arch fitted into the seat.
Capital letter 'R' carved under the seat 'handle'. The 'R' top and bottoms have line extensions.
