Description 8 piece Lovely lady silverware set Manufacter is Holmes & Edwards. It is in good condition it is a little tarnished. I remember it as a kid. My Mom treasured it. Wow all those thanksgivings with her yelling "DO NOT PUT THAT IN THE DISHWASHER!!"

What we need to know is this set marked "Sterling" or is it silver plated? It makes a huge difference in value, 10X in some cases. Other marks would be "925" which is the numerical equivalent to "Sterling silver" ( 925/1000ths. pure silver). Lovejoy

I have just received pieces of this set, also. The tagline says "something more than plate" so not sterling I'm sure.

Lovely Lady was first made in 1937, and continued into the 1950s. Holmes & Edwards as a company began in 1882. The "I S" on your pieces either refers to the fact that Holmes & Edwards was bought by International Silver in 1898. or that the flatware was Inlaid Sterling. They called their flatware Inlaid Sterling, because it although most of each piece was base metal plated with silver ("silver overlay") blocks of solid sterling silver were inlaid at the backs of bowls and handles of the most-used spoons and forks.
