Underwood Champion Typewriter

Appraisal complete
Description I found this typewriter at a thrift store for $20. I've done a little research online, and with the Underwood serial number database being closed, I'm having difficulty dating it. The Underwood company states that they started making the Champion in the 1930's and that in the 1940's they were used in Army. I was hoping that someone could help me find the history of my tyepwriter. The serial number is G1395556 I would love to find out if it was actually used in the army.

Did you ever find any information? We found one in a garage sale... from pictures found online it appears to be a 1938 Champion with a gloss finish. Serial number is G1077401.

I have a similar looking Underwood Champion and would like to get a manufacture date, but am not sure where to find the serial number on this typewriter. Only number I can find is on the underside = H55015, but shouldn't the S/N be seen from the top of the typewriter? Thanks, Dan
