Barotse Tribe Meat and Mealie Meal Carrier

Description This is (from the description on an envelope inside it) a "Barotse Tribe Meat & Mealie Meal Carrier". I have put up other images here: http://bit.ly/ckHkcp The bottom bowl's lid has a groove that matches a piece on the bottom of the top bowl. It's actually pretty neat. Sadly I really know nothing of the history of this. Hopefully someone here will.
