requires a hands on appraisal by an expert. Civil war swords can be extremely valuable & are heavily faked...can fool experts, even. Source...Pawn Stars(:...watch a few episodes & you'll probably see an evaluation of one.

It is a nice looking piece and it looks like a Model 1860 Cavalry Saber but from the looks of the Brass knuckle bow and pommel the style doesn't seam right for the era. For as clean as it is you should be able to read the date stamp. Normally there marked on left side of ricasso U.S, G.W.S, and then a date then again there were so many variations of swords in use during the Civil War that it's impossible to say without physically checking it. If it is authentic I would estimate it's value at around $500-$700 with a scabbard without a scabbard $300-$500. The thing that makes it not a real valuable item is the fact that there were so many Union Army swords produced. Still nice to have in a collection.
