Description The set includes the base, the bowl, and 12 matching cups. There are some random raised lines here and there, and a small bubble in the glass. On the bottom of the base there is a strange cloudy mark that is shaped vaguely like an upside down "U", only it's more spread out than that. Very sparkley overall.

I saw one very much like this one on Antique Roadshow many years ago and it's estimated value was in the high thousand of dollars.

Wow....that would be amazing. Antiques Roadshow is coming to my area in July, and I've applied for tickets to go in person. I really need to know how much to insure this set for. Tiffany, so glad I found you with the EXACT same punch bowl set. I bought it at an Antique Store, mine appears to have been made in two seperate peices, as it has a seam down the middle. No other markings that I can locate... Wondering if you had it appraised by the Antique Road Show yet, and would you consider sharing the value with me, as I would have no other way of finding out it's true value. Thanks, Barb.

Tiffany, need to make a correction to the above notation, the seam is NOT going down the middle. However there is one seam on each side of the bowl, that only extends half way down the bowl. Thanks Barb.

You have your stand upside down. The bowl sits on the more narrow side. I do have the matching underplate for this set on ebay if you are interested

I HAVE SEEN THIS PATTERN IN CARNIVAL GLASS AND IT WAS CALLED WHIRLING STAR.  IT MAY BE NORTHWOOD GLASS, POSSIBLY FENTON (BUT DOUBTFUL) , IMPERIAL, I WOULD CHECK FOR GLASS MAKERS OF THE PERIOD MOST OF THEM PATTENED THEIR PATTERNS SO THEY WERE EXCLUSIVE. THIS MIGHT BE A PLACE TO START RESEARCH.   I  COLLECT CARNIVAL GLASS BUT MOST OF THOSE MAKERS ALSO WORKED WITH CRYSTAL AND CLEAR GLASS AS WELL AS MANY OTHER COLORS.  THE CARNIVAL GLASS VERSION OF THIS iIHAVE SEEN SELL ON EBAY FOR UPWARDS OF $3000.00 SO YOU KNOW IT'S WORTH MUCH MORE THAN THAT.  IF IT'S NOT A REPRODUCTION.  SINCE YOU KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS SET YOU ALREADY KNOW IT IS NOT A REPRO.  HOPE THIS HELPS.

You might check Pinwheel/Cane (Aztec)pattern by Smith Glass Co. Approx. $160 for the bowl, $70 for the pedistal and $10 for the cup at auction. More if you order replacement cost. It is a wonderful set.

Really this particular punch bowl set especially if it was handed down through the family is worth a lot more than the prices you mention. If this is old cut glass and not the newer punch bowls its value is in the thousands. As I mention in my recent reply, the one I saw on Antique Roadshow about 5 years ago was appraised at $5,000 and that was because of the beautiful old cut design but more so because it still the original pedestal. I remember the appraiser stating that most get broken over the years--Plus she has all of the cups. Get it appraised by a qualified apppraiser.

Joyceann: You are right, all things considered, it is worth much more then a reproduced set. I was trying to steer her to the right pattern name for research. It did some more research and it appears to of been made about 1910. I have 3 large old sets with the underplate, pedestal and cups, NOT this patttern. They are more impressive then a picture can show. Older pieces like hers are heavier, cut deeper and polished better then new as a general rule, and of course the price is far greater.

Have you determined the maker of this punch set?  Was it Smith or someone else?  I have one just like it and it also has the upside down "U" mark on the base.  I was wondering if the Smith reproduction has the same mark.  Whomever made it, it sure is beautiful.
