Middle Eastern or African Copper Cooking (?) Vessel

Description I believe it is some sort of cooking vessel, probably for some ethnic dish I know nothing about. I don't understand why the strings were put on there, it does have brass hook for handing. there are 2 figures etched on back, which appear to me are some sort of animals. There is also a phrase (artists name?) etched on inside of vessel, which I tried to have translated by a gentleman who reads Hebrew. He said it made no sense to him. I am desperately trying to find any and all information on this piece. All will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
