The tea set is porcelain I think. It has like a crackle type of glaze on it that makes it look like it's covered in thousands of tiny cracks. The paintings on it are of 2 people, an ornate wagon & cherry blossoms. The colors in the paintings are mostly red, black, white, green & yellow, there is gold detailing in the paintings. There is a red stripe painted around the bottom of both the cups and the tea pot. The paintings on the cups match the teapot. The lid of the teapot has only the wagon & cherry blossoms painted on it. There is a chip out of 1 of the cups. The other 3 are all in perfect condition. The tea pot itself has no chips or cracks. The teapot has a straight handle on the side. There is a filter, made of porcelain, inside of teapot @ opening for spout. The entire set sits inside of a black box. the box is made of plastic and is painted with red and gold leaves and ribbon. The lid can be removed and used as a tray to serve the tea. There is also a handle to carry it which can be slid the whole way off so you can completely lift off the lid.

There are 2 marks done in red on bottom of pot and cups. They are some kind of Asian writing but I'm not sure if it's Chinese or Japanese or maybe a completely different language...

History
It was passed down to me by from great grandmother when she died. It was supposedly bought in China and given to her by her sister. I have no idea of when or where it was purchased.
