This piece dates about 1875/80 and is in the Aesthetic style.
The Aesthetic Movement was a fairly minor phenomenon in the history of decorative arts. Lasting from around 1868 to 1910, it served mainly as a bridge between the high Victorian sensibility and the radical shift of the Arts & Crafts style. Pieces in this style tend to far less ornate than the other Victorian sub styles such as Rococo, Gothic and Renaissance Revival Most of it tends to be rather well made, the smaller pieces such as chairs still sell well in a market tired of Victorian furniture. We see them go in the $200.00- $300.00 range at auctions.
