This desk is beautiful and very well made, all joints are sound/tight. All the wood is whole and in original condition. The only thing that is less than excellent is the finish.

History
I purchased it from a friend of my daughter, 18 years ago, I don't know anything about this desk except that it is well built and sturdy.
This is what's called a " Spinet Desk", after it's resemblance to Spinet Pianos made during the 1840's. Most desks like this one date from the 1920's onward and sell in the $300.00- $500.00 range.
Could you add a picture of the hinges on the small flap that sits on the very top when the desk is completely open? I'd be interested to see what those hinges look like. Thank you.

Re: Dark Wood Writing Desk
It's most likely a piano type hinge, same as the one on the top, either that or a inset butt hinge.
