Vintage African Americana Pickle and Child Salt & Pepper Shakers

Description

I bought these at a local antique shop and now am wondering if they are legitimate or not. They are kiln-fired and shiny and no wear is visible on the top. I'd never seen anything like it so I picked them up. They are two little black children on a pickle. That is the oddest thing! They aren't perfectly painted and there is wear on the bottom but no distinguishing marks, except for corks that plug the hole in the bottom. The corks do not look old. The bottom is unpainted, rough ceramic. I'm wondering if this is just a replica.
