What you have is an incense holder/burner, that is most likely is from India and dates to the latter half of the last century, I haven't seen an identical one, but I have seen several similar ones, and they seem to sell right in the $50-75 range. Most of the ones I've seen have a slightly more rounded, six-sided lotus petal shape to them, and have six legs, so you might want to have it checked out by a knowledgable antiques dealer just in case it is a rarer, more desirable form.

Hi What you have there is a Chopra if you Google Brass Chopra you will see examples of it. It's used for holding spices but you can also use it for storing other items. They are available also on ebay. I have one and they are very handy, I keep earrings in mine. A friend bought mine back from India a few years ago. Hope that helps.
