The condition is fair/good..over the years it has sustained some scratches. The dresser is quite beautiful. It has 8 drawers, 4 each side. It bows in the middle, hence the wider depth in the middle. It looks as if, at one point, the mirror could have been attached to the dresser, but I can always remember the mirror being hung on the wall. Footboard has more detail on the side facing away from mattress and sits lower (24.5") than the height of the headboard. There appears to be veneers, at least on the legs of the dresser, that need to be repaired, along with some scratches on all pieces. On the back of the dresser it says "150 4/6 MAH." I am guessing that means the dresser was 4 of six pieces...the dresser, footboard, headboard, 2 rails and the mirror. I recently got an estimate of 1400.00 to refinish the set and was wondering if this would warrant that price. The furniture refinisher seemed to think so, but that would be his opinion.
This is about 5' tall and it is in allmost mint condition. It has all of its original parts. it has never been worked on and rarely played but it does work and works well. the top lid has "Edison" inlayed in the wood. I do believe this is cherrywood. it has a brass arm to play the discs with and moves with ease. it has the original needle. it has an arm that sticks out from the right side to wind it, it also moves with ease. the compartment with the speaker(not the right word) is all original. The cover still has the original fabric it is worn and tattered but time takes its toll on everything. inside this compartment it has a paper sticker with "factory 19" on it. the bottom compartment has two shelves with 36 discs on each. it has all the discs in it with the paper sleeves will get a list of them all. has a few scratches and one lite chunk out of the back left corner half way up unfortunately. but all in all a beautiful piece. very well taken care of.
I inherited in the 1980s and was told at that time that it was over 100 years old. I have searched for markings and cannot find any. It has 3 removable shelves with display grooves. The bottom shelf does not have a groove. The glass has a wavy texture like in older items. It is beautifully carved, with overlay on the glass. I have searched and cannot find anything comparible. I also have the original skeleton key. There are a couple of small damaged areas, but nothing too severe. It really is a beautiful piece and I would love to know what it is worth.
