Walnut Pie Safe

Category
Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

I recently purchased this pie safe from a former work colleague since she was moving and did not have space for it. She told me this item had been in her family for 5 generations, and that it was a solid walnut pie safe. My wife and I are not looking at selling we are just internested in a approximate value. The entire pie safe is in great condition other than the bottom right safe door which looks like it has deteriorated due to age. The exact weight of this piece is unknown, however it took four men to carry the safe into our home, and is definately the heaviest piece of furniture in our home.

The actual history is unknown since my coworker has left and moved to Alaska any information that could be given from the pictures would be great.

What is it?

Category
Vintage Electronics
Condition
Excellent
Description

I bought this thing at an estate sale because no one running the sale knew what is was.  They took my $5 offer.  The base is about 2.75" x 5.5" and seems to be made of bakelite.  The +/- terminals indicate it would be connected to a direct current power source (battery?).  Turning the knob at the top raises it up and down.  There is a plastic cap over the top, left removable probe type thing.  When lowered all the way down the probe is still about 3/4" from touching the left pedestal.  A magnet will not stick to any of the metal surfaces which indicates the metal might be stainless steel.
