This Gibson 1905, 'A model' mandolin was my great grandmothers and was given to me by my grandfather. My great-grandmother passed away in 1948 and I know, through my grandfather, that it has not been played since. It has been packed away and my grandfather did not know too much about it. I play a little mandolin but I'm more of a banjo player. This thing rings like it was made yesterday and many fine musicians have drooled over it. When you look at it you would never guess that it is 103 years old. It was hard, through mandolin cafe, to track down the year on it, cause records are hard to pin down, even with the serial # on it. Thank goodness the original receipt was kept. She bought it in 1906 for $27.50, which seems alot for back then. It is in better than mint condition, if that is possible. If I find a camera I'll post some pictures. It has a tortise shell pick gaurd. I'm not sure what kind of would it is yet. Now I'm trying to get a price on it. I have been told unofficially many different prices by music shops and musicians. I would like something more official.
