1936 Bedroom Set - Originally Purchased St Louis, MO

By Mimi_Monkey, 7 October, 2022
Description

Hi there!  My father inherited my aunt's bedroom set when she passed.  We are hoping to get some help identifying the furniture and a very rough estimated value as we are trying to determine if we should donate or try to sell it.  Unfortunately we just don't have room to keep this in combining households.  My grandfather bought this set as a wedding present for my grandmother in 1936, they were living in St. Louis MO at the time.  We should have taken a better photo before we had to move the furniture so I am hoping this may be enough information as a neighbor had to help with these photos.  There are no photos of the bed which is all original except for the mattress support slats.  The lights on the dressing table have been rewired for safety reasons.  I am unsure of the wood used, the furniture is surprisingly light but in incredibly good shape.  The inside of the wardrobe does have a cedar smell to it.  The bench is the only piece that is showing quite a bit of wear.  Everything except for the bed is on wheels.  There is a mirror that also attaches to the dresser that they didn't get a photo of.  Any information is much appreciated.  Thank you so much for your help!  All Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/lr0uxm8

These 1930's suites tend to…

These 1930's suites tend to be a strange mix of styles, in his set there are elements of Empire and Art Nouveau. Sadly though the demand for furniture like this is currently very weak, last peaking in the late 1980's. Whole suites now sell at auction for under $500.00
