It's an example of "Luster ware", the type originally was very popular inthe early 1800's, but based on the images and your description of the mark this one dates from the 20th century. One rarely sees gold colored company markings on pieces made before World War Two. Values at auction, under $25.00.

Thank you very much for you review of the piece. Now I can safely put it on Ebay and see what I can get for it...
it was definitely a stamp of the MFG on the bottom, just can't read it because it is too faded.
