8 Mahogany Sabre Leg Dining Room Chairs

By Anonymous (not verified), 5 March, 2008
Description

I am considering purchasing these dining room chairs. There are 2 carver chairs and 6 side chairs. I have been told by the shopkeeper that they were made by Craftique, although I have not been able to verify that. The new screw seen in the last picture was put in by ther person who reupholstered the seats (what a hack job!) to secure the seat to the framse. Before I purchase them, I was hoping to get more information on them including their value. I haver purposely left out the sale price as I want to hear from someone else what they feel they might be worth. Thank you!

8 Mahogany Sabre Leg Dining Room Chairs

These chairs were made during the second quarter of the 20th century, and are "Federal Revival " pieces. These were mass produced items designed to resemble Federal furniture made circa 1780- 1820. Values vary, but most sell for less than 150.00 per chair. Lovejoy

Re: 8 Mahogany Sabre Leg Dining Room Chairs

I contacted Craftique and the chairs were not made by them. Today I was able to talk to the owner of the antique store and he has assured me that b/c of the type of construction he believes them to be no later that 1920. He is asking considerably more than $150 per chair. I think I'm going to buy them. It's so hard to find a decent set of 8 chairs. There are many regency style chairs, but most are too ornate for my taste. I really love the look of these chairs and they're very heavy and sturdy. In the end, I guess these things are worth whatever you're willing to pay for them.
