Re: AA Glendening oil painting
Paintings really require a physical appraisal to determine what we are dealing with . There were two Alfred Glendenings . Alfred Glendenings Jr. (1861-1907) bore the same name as his father, Alfred Augustus Glendening Sr. (1840-1910) original paintings by either have sold over a wide range from about $2000.00 to $20,000.00.
Re: AA Glendening oil painting
I am trying to figure out if this was a possible Glendening either Jr or Sr Is there a catelogue of their works somewhere. I haven't even found a list of titles. The flatford mill title on this doesn't match other Glendening mill paintings I added a few close ups that may help a partial evaluation.
Re: AA Glendening oil painting
From what I can see this is by A A Glendening (1840-1921) but if it is then you would see his signature or initials (AAG) in one of the lower corners - It looks like the lower left corner to me. Could you check that and see if there is a date beside it? The signature and date as well as the inscription Flatford Mill is definitately not in his hand. Also how big is the canvas?
I've been researching the artist's work for some time so was interested to see your posting. I would be happy to share more information with you.
Re: AA Glendening oil painting
This was a painting I was considering for purchase. The signature was initials "AAG '79" in lower left corner. I don't have addl info but would like yo learn more as I really liked his work
Re: AA Glendening oil painting
That's really interesting - thanks for letting me know. The date fits in with his style at that period. Do you know who owns the painting? Thanks
Re: AA Glendening oil painting
I don't remember and I don't have info anymore. My concern was that the date was that the date didn't seem to be in his style nor did the structure of the letters. I think she wanted about $7k for it. But I believe it sold.
Re: AA Glendening oil painting
DId you take a photo of the red initials and date AAG 79 lower left? I agree that the signature and inscription "Flatford Mill/ By A A Glendening 1879" which appears to wrap around the stretcher is not in his hand.
