American chair

By menagerie, 30 January, 2013
Description

I have a large chair that I am curious as of the age.

I have been told 1930's and 1890.

I do not know my woods ,so not any help there.Does have a redish tint though.

Arms look as though they have a eagle face.

Re: American chair

Your chair dates from the turn of the 19th Century to about 1915 and loosely based on the Empire style, such pieces are said to be in the "Empire Revival Style". While not currently in demand, you did well to get it for $50.00, we'd retail one like this for about $250.00.
