Perhaps you can learn more from it. Also take what you know, you may be surprised that you have more information than you realize.
Like if you know how many generations it has been, you can figure out a better timeframe that the piece was bought new, and through a bit of geneology, can trace the people who bought it and find out where they bought it, etc.
