Antique Arabian Wall Hanging or Cover

By Polish Dill Pi…, 27 June, 2022
Description

This is an old woven piece, I believe with Arabic symbols. It is mostly blue and red on a tan background. It is large enough to cover a twin sized bed. There are no holes or tears except for a small bare area on the back side...about a 2" round spot. It does not show through to the front. There are just a very few places on the scalloped edge where there is slight raveling, but this is, I believe, a piece that is at least 75 to 100 years old or more. On each corner is a square that depicts a warrior with a sword on a camel.

Medium
I am not sure of the fabric....I know it is nothing modern. The backside of this tapestry or covering appears to be made out of silk threads. The design is woven so that it shows on the back side as well as the front. Reminds me of the description of the veil that hung in front of the holy of holies in the Bible....so the design showed on either side.
Distinguishing marks
There is not a name or hallmark on this piece.
Condition
Good
Size and dimensions of this item
I do not have a tape measure on hand, but it is approximately the size of a twin sized quilt which is 70x90 inches.
Date Period
I am totally not sure but believe this to be over 100 years and probably much older than that.
Weight
Approximately 5-7#
History
Its an old Arabian tapestry or wall hanging....I have used it occasionally as a throw on my couch. Has been in my family for a long time. I just recently started looking carefully at it and I truly believe it is fairly old and in good condition except for a small 2" spot on the backside, which does not show from the front, and a few places on the edge that have ravelled a bit. Nothing major, and I did not want to try to repair it.
Price
I do not know. There was another old tapestry in our home bought back in the forties in Portland, OR
Price Paid (If known)
