Thank you so much for your post. I am sorry I don't have much useful information. I believe it is from Europe. When my grandfather was a young man he traveled to Europe to attend college. On his return he purchased a lot of antiques. My mother told me he bought items that were over $500 (?) so they would be duty-free. Not 100% sure about that but that is the story I was told. I have posted some more (close-up) pics.

Thanks again. What I meant to say was he purchased items over 500 years old, not $500. I will take your advice and contact a museum.
