About 5 years ago, I received this antique dining room set from my grandmother. She thought that it came from an old furniture store in Western Maryland maybe around the Westernport/Lonaconing area but she wasn't positive. She also told me that she thought it was pretty old, dating back to the early 1900s or so. There is a dining table with 4 high back chairs and one small back chair, a small buffet with two doors that open outward, a large buffet with two doors, one on each end as well as two long drawers on top of each other (the top drawer has a small insert that slides across for what I would guess to be silverware), and a china cabinet with a glass door on the front and three shelves inside and on the bottom- two doors that open outward. I would like to know maybe its origins as well as how much it is worth. Its taking up a lot of space in my basement right now and I may be ready to sell it. I know absolutley NOTHING about furniture or its value. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
Re: Antique Dining Room Set
Sets like this generally date from the mid to late 1920's and are in the Colonial Revival Style, loosely based on American furniture circa 1620- 1780. Most are a mix of maple with walnut veneers, the greatest center of production being Grand rapids Michigan, then the furniture capital of the world in terms of production. Values for sets like this peaked in the 1990's, values and demand have declined a great deal since then. We now often see whole suites sell for less than $800.00 at auction.
