Antique -- gargoyle / griffin ???

Hi - picked this pair of wooden sculpted pieces up a few years ago. They are about two feet tall and about a foot and a half long. They look to have been potentially part of something else, but not sure. There are wooden pegs underneath holding these together. If you look closely they have different facial expressions and slightly different details, which to me, at least that part is hand carved. There is some plaster in places that looks like it was used to fill in the wood where there were cracks. Any help on info / color is appreciated!
