I have an antique gilt gesso frame and I know absolutely nothing about it.. It is very large and heavy, probably 20 pounds and has what appears to be the original glass in it. There are no cracks or chips anywhere. It is 29 1/2 inches wide and 35 1/2 inches long. It is so gorgeous and so detailed; it's probably the prettiest frame I've ever seen.I believe it was hand-carved. It has a double frame, one large on one the outside, then red velvet inside, then another ornate frame on the other side of that. We love it so much that we'll definitely keep it and hang it in our home if it's not worth too much. I'm not sure if it has any gold leaf in it, but it sure looks like it to me. The red velvet is in reallly good shape and so pretty. I purchased this frame from a local thrift store for $10. I couldn't resist, it's gorgeous! I would love to know how much this frame is worth, because I need to decide whether I should just keep and display it in my home, or have it sold in an auction. I would love to hear any information about this peice and how it was made, and the history of it. I love to look at it and all the detail. It just baffles my mind that someone probably handmade it. Any information you could provide for me would be greatly appreciated! If it is indeed worth a good amount, I would love to have it sold in an auction.
