History
My stepfather worked for CONN in the 70s. He died in '83 and these have been in storage since. My mother had to be moved to a facility for dementia and her home was a hoard. Everything was due to go to the trash and my husband felt they were too nice to be thrown away.

Robert Berran Limited Edition Lithograph Set for C.G. Conn Ltd.

Overview:

This is a set of three offset lithographs created by American illustrator Robert Berran in 1974, commissioned by the historic American musical instrument manufacturer C.G. Conn Ltd. Each print was signed in pencil by Berran and is hand-numbered 96/100, indicating it is part of a limited edition of only 100 copies—a relatively small print run that enhances its rarity and appeal.

Titles & Themes:

  1. "America Relaxes" – Depicting The Allentown Band (1852), America’s oldest civilian concert band.
  2. "A New Beginning" – Showing the Connersville, Indiana High School Band (1906–07).
  3. "The Circus is Here" – Illustrating a vibrant circus parade in Kansas (1894).

Each scene captures an idealized Americana image tied to the evolution of musical performance and community celebration, aligning with C.G. Conn’s brand identity.

Artist: Robert Berran (1923–2020):

Robert Berran was a prolific American illustrator best known for his magazine covers and advertising artwork during the mid-20th century. His ability to romanticize American historical scenes makes this set particularly collectible among those who appreciate nostalgic, music-themed Americana art.

Medium:

  • Offset Lithography on textured paper
  • Pencil-signed and numbered by the artist
  • Commissioned by C.G. Conn Ltd., copyright 1974

Dimensions:

  • Each piece: approx. 20 x 16 inches, framed

Condition:

  • "America Relaxes" and "A New Beginning" are in excellent condition, fully intact, well-preserved under glass.
  • "The Circus is Here" has a broken frame but the print itself appears well-preserved.
  • All three prints retain strong color fidelity and clear signatures, enhancing collectibility.

Historical and Collectible Value:

These lithographs were never mass-produced for public sale but were likely promotional or commemorative gifts tied to C.G. Conn's legacy and clientele. Given the limited edition of 100, plus Robert Berran's prominence in mid-20th-century illustration, they are desirable to collectors of:

  • Vintage band or music memorabilia
  • Americana illustration
  • C.G. Conn instrument history
  • Limited-edition signed prints

Estimated Market Value (2025):

  • Per piece (signed, framed): $150–$250
  • Full set (3 pcs, matching numbers, signed): $450–$700
    • The value is slightly reduced due to the broken frame on one print but can be restored.

Authentication:

  • The matching artist signature in pencil
  • Numbered edition (96/100)
  • C.G. Conn Ltd. copyright stamp
  • All consistent with known Berran prints commissioned for Conn in 1974
  • Considered authentic based on provided images and signatures

Recommendation:

While the provenance is strong and condition is good to excellent, you may wish to obtain a professional appraisal for:

  • Insurance purposes
  • Formal resale through a fine art or music memorabilia auction

Recommended appraisal services:

  • Heritage Auctions (Dallas): Known for vintage prints, illustration, and music-related items.
  • Eldred's Auctions or Bonhams: Particularly good if targeting historical Americana collectors.
