Description
This is a large flat-top (I think) steamer trunk. It is black leather (?) with brass corners and lock from Yale & Towne Co. It has a pull-out tray inside which looks remarkably new to me. I'm not sure if it is the original or not.
I am thrilled with my purchase and do not intend to sell it, however I am very interested in the manufacturer since I cannot seem to locate any label on it. I would also like to know the value if at all possible.

I picked this up at the Salvation Army on a really good shopping day :) I don't know anything about the item except that the lock is from Yale & Towne Co

This is difficult to evaluate without a close examination. So my comments here are only from what I see/think I see in your photos.
This appears to be a steamer trunk 'style' box. (does it have a ceder smell on the inside?) Leather of this nature (sure it's not faux leather?) was rarely used as it damages easily. Tin is most common for the siding.
In my opinion, It looks to be a decorator reproduction or a blanket/hope chest type box though. The tray looks like it might be a replacement, but it's difficult to see in the photo. Look for how it's connected, what kind of nails/joints etc.
It doesn't have the outside strapping of steamer trunks, used to protect it from the riggors of travel. It's in pretty prestine shape so it appears to be either recovered or a newer version. There was a 'fad' in the 70's/80's for steamer trunks as decorator pieces. They were used as blanket boxes, livingroom tables etc. so many reproduction forms of older designs were made. Quite functional and still desirable by many, even the repros have a value of about $75 to $150.
It's a great find, be careful if you store blankets in it though. If it's not ceder then you may have problems with bugs (use moth balls or something) and the wood might mold if it gets wet.
