Binnacle

My Great Aunt gifted me a Binnacle that I wanted since I was a little kid. Last time I saw it was 33 years ago. Now I have it but I do not have much history on it. My Aunt believed it was on a Japanesse ship however I question that. It has a paper compass inside that says Max Kuner Co. Seattle. I did read up on the Max Kuner Co. and leanered it was in buisness from 1897 up until 1949. There was a real compass inside that has the word Japan on it however I think I dropped it in there when I was 10 years old. I really just want to know a bit more about what year it was made and what kind of ship it may have been on.
