Description

I know very little about this.  Purchased at an auction.  It is hollow with a rough interior and very smooth exterior.  It is of medium weight for its size.  It is very intricately carved with a lot of filagree and three figures carved on the front.  Everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what is deplicted.  The top and bottom figures may be baboon masks with the center figure appears to be in Mayan? or Asian dress.  The figurine itself is hollow like a tusk or bone.  Is this bone?  Ivory?  Any opinions would be appreciated.

Based on the porosity of the material visible on the inside of the carving I'd have to conclude that it's most likely bone. Possibly from India...? Beyond that you'd really have to have it looked at in person by an expert to determine the value for sure. Honestly though, my gut feeling is that it's not likely to be very old and probably not worth a great deal.
