Re: Chinese Snuff Bottle
I have some good and bad news for you. I'll start with the bad. I was able to find the exact same snuff bottle for sale on a Chinese website with labeling underneath the bottle "made in china" this is never a good sign especially for Chinese antiquities. http://pai.sssc.cn/item/320327 More likely than not what you have has a high probability of being a copy. Pieces made by artisans from the court rarely were ever mass produced and often only one or two would be produced because of the sheer expense. Especially with the fact the bottle is missing a red signature seal that went on most snuff bottles. See here at this website http://www.veniceclayartists.com/tag/pot-pourri/ and search the page for "Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Sanctum of Enlightened Respect III exhibition, from the collection of Denis Low" to see which photo I'm talking about.
Now the the good news.
The snuff bottle is for sale for 499 rmb which is about $72 USD. Real or fake this is a good indication of its current market value. And if anything a good "fake" or copy also costs a lot of money these days. Given that mass production started around the Qing Dynasty you also have a chance for this item to be real. But at the end of the day you still have a great piece no matter if it's authentic or not as this piece looks high quality from he photos you took.
