Christ Child Painting Picture

By Anonymous (not verified), 12 October, 2008
Description

It has been commented on by many people because no one has seen a picture like this.  Not of the Christ Child.  I am very interested in finding out if it is indeed an oil painting or not. Also, who signed this picture.  The glare on the picture is because of the glass and in the one picture, the white in the lower right hand corner, is also a reflection from our window.  That is not in the actual picture.  It was difficult to take a good picture with the glass on it.

Category
Paintings
Medium
The picture is on oil cloth and I do believe it is an oil painting. It has been in a glass covered frome for many, many years.
Distinguishing marks
In the lower right hand corner it says "C E.G.Co. Inc. N.Y. and it is signed, but you can barely see it with a magnifying glass. It looks like the signature starts with a capital "S". It would have to be professional checked to tell the signature.
Condition
Good
Size and dimensions of this item
Approximately 12' x 9"
Date Period
Late 1700's - Early 1800's, I believe.
History
It was given to me by my grandmother and given to her by her mother. I now am 62 years old, so taken into consideration that my grandmother was born 1888 and I believe it was in the family before that, it would possibly be around 175 to 200 years old.

Re: Christ Child Painting Picture

Hi Cheryl,

I'm trying to find out the same thing.Ā  I thought I would get some idea from this siteĀ  as to an appraisal, but maybe I misunderstood the intended results of listing my items on this site.Ā  I'm going to try to find out some other ways of how to get them appraised by anĀ official appraiser.

I may have to resort to contacting some official sources related to antiques.
