I don't know much about this piece other than what I'm told. It is supposedly a colonial era ballot box. It is constructed from wood and nails. The hardware is original and is in good working order. The top surface has slight damage by one of the hinges. The carpentry is very basic and the ballot slot is hand carved. The wood has been well cared for over the years and the piece is in the same condition as when I purchased it.
