About the Artist
Alice Cardelli Swett (often signing simply “Cardelli Swett”) was a Nevada painter based in Dayton, a historic mining town in the Carson River Valley. A “listed” artist, her works appear in Nevada art reference books such as Painters of Nevada, 1845–1980 and in regional auction catalogs. She was especially known for her portrayals of wild mustangs, stagecoaches, buffalo, and the desert expanses of the Great Basin. Her work circulated widely in Nevada during the mid-20th century, adorning homes, businesses, and public spaces throughout the state’s mining towns.

Historical Provenance
Cardelli Swett’s paintings were recognized and collected by Nevada institutions. In 2009, the Douglas County Historical Society exhibited her painting The Wild Bunch (also referred to as The Mustangs), appraised at $1,500, which was later raffled to raise funds for the museum. This connection underscores her role as a regional painter whose work held cultural significance within Nevada’s historical preservation community.
