When my Grandmother passed away a few yars ago, my mother inherited this very nice vintage (or at least I think it is) DuMont console. I has been sitting in the garage collectind dust so I thought I would find out if it has any value aside from it working and looking...well...vintage. My mom says that my uncle bought this for my grandmother brand new somwhwere in Califonis but she does not remember the date and i cant ask my uncle because he passed away two years after my gandmother. Ive tried researching the name on the internet but all i get is the history of the company. There are no serial number archives where I can look it up and find out when it was manufactured and the components are used in it. I also dont want to rip it open fo fear that I might degrade any value that it might have.
Ill start with the stereo reciever. It is in great condition aside from some small scuffs from normal wear and tear. it has the tuner know which works great and picks up the local stations. I get some interference as i dont have an anntena connected to it but it sounds good when you get a strong frequency. Im not sure if the 8 track player works as i dont have any to test it with. I also dont know if the headphone jack works as i dont have any headphones as I dont have any headphones with a 1/4 inch plug. The volume, balance and tone knowbs work great.
The record player works great. I played a Doors album and it was phenomenal. There is something about listening to a record the way it was meant to be played. I love the pops and scratches that can be heard in the background. It really gives it the old timey feel. The record player has a smaill lever that has stop, start and auto. all three of them work. When I selsct auto, the record player drops the record, then the needle will move and drop right on to the record at the beginning.
Here is a link that shows it working.
