🔎 Description & Background
This is a large mid-20th-century solid brass deer sculpture, almost certainly crafted for decorative interior display. Sculptures like this were popular imports in the 1960s–1980s, often made in India or Hong Kong for high-end department stores and boutiques in the U.S., especially in design-conscious markets like New York City.
The sculpture’s freestanding design, with its elongated limbs, finely chased surface texture, and raised spots on the body, is visually aligned with Hollywood Regency and mid-century Asian export styles. These designs emphasized grandeur, exotic motifs, and eye-catching metallic finishes, and were often sold in upscale home décor shops and art galleries.
Similar sculptures were produced by unnamed artisans and small foundries, frequently distributed through companies such as Maitland-Smith, Sarreid, and other luxury importers. Because there are no foundry marks or tags, attribution to a specific maker isn’t possible without provenance, but the styling is consistent with high-quality work from India or Southeast Asia
💰 Valuation Estimate (as of 2025)

Value may increase if the sculpture is part of a matched pair or if provenance (e.g. original receipt or gallery tag) is documented.
