grand rapids furniture company combination desk from 1880's

Description

it is a combination desk and chair. the desk tilts forward and top opens were kids could store their books, stainless steel pencil holder on the top of the desk as well as a stainless steel guard at the bottom to prevent supplies from slipping off the desk.  top of desk is wood trimmed with steel, the bottom of the desk as well the legs are all steel, the chair is wood and reinforced with steel around it. the height of the chair and desk can be adjusted.

it is the first innovation that launched american seating company in grand rapids michigan in the 1880's started out as grand rapids furniture company by three school board members that realized that the chairs and desks school children were using were terribly uncomfortable and shaping bad posture for the children.
