Long Description
Purchased in an estate sale. Appears to be hand tooled copper. Words in image 4 read "Urbis Palladium Gentils". Â Image 6 has the word "Pau". Â In image 5, in the center of the rectangle is a peacock, below is two animals with horns or antlers, with crowns above the heads, and above on the left is the letter "H", and on the right, the Roman numeral IV. At the bottom, what appears to be the artist name "M Lhoste". The label on the back reads "Cuiures d'Art et Fer Forge' Fait Main Marr Lhoste, 64300 Orthez". Piece is 15 3/4 in wide.

More research found it tells a story of defending a city or area called Pau in the south of France during the reign of Henri the IV.Â
