Large Antique French Bookcase

By geniaborsari, 6 November, 2015
Description

This is a 3 piece bookcase (left side, center, right side lock togather into one piece). It measures 86" wide, 21" deep, 96" tall. From the hardware it appears to be French and before 1860. The doors slide on to the hinges (no screws-photo shown from bottom view). There is very little hardware (2 large screws secure each of the side pieces onto the center-photo shown). The tops of the doors, a piece sticks into a hole on the piece and the bottom slides and to the hinge (photot shown) and the door sits on it with no screw. There are a few worm holes on the back (could not get to for photo). There are a couple splits in the side of the cabinet (very small and can only be seen when a light is shined in). On the bottom right corner there is a bit of damage. There are normal scratches from use over the years. This is a beautiful and large piece, the photos do not do it justice. It has all 3 keys which I believe to be the originals. The are no labels or stamps on the piece, on the inside edge of the center door is some writing in pencil but it is unlegible to me (photo shown). The lock for the center peice still works (photo) but the side pieces no longer lock.
