Description The letter was written in 1900 by Elijah W. Penny to his son.  It was sent from Topeka KS to Colorado.  The post mark and stamps are on the envelop.  The letter references battles the general participated in.  I visited the grave of the general in 1987 in Topeka, but only discovered the letter recently.  The letter recounts some of the details about the war and battles he fought in.  I could not attach the photos I took to his posting, but I did take several.

A couple of corrections for the above information.  E.W. Penny was a Col. not a Gen.  I read his obituary and he was more active than I had originally imagined.  The was involved in the march to Atlanta, was wounded numerous times and belonged to the 130th Indiana infantry.  He died in 1919 at the age of 81. This letter was written to his son about 19 years before his death.
