The Little Confectioner Published by H. Hueg

Description

Presented here is an exceptionally rare, original 1914 softcover edition of "The Little Confectioner" by Herman Hueg. Published in Long Island City, New York, this isn't just a recipe book—it is a professional trade manual and illustrated catalog from the "Golden Age" of American confectionery.

This 128 pg. pocketbook(approx. 4"x6") 1914 edition of "The Little Confectioner" is a fantastic "crossover" collectible because it appeals to three different groups: antique cookbook collectors, industrial history buffs, and professional candy makers looking for "lost" Edwardian-era recipes.Since this book was published by H. Hueg & Co. out of Long Island City, NY, it carries a distinct "Old New York" industrial charm.

Herman Hueg was a master of the craft, and this pocket-sized manual was the industry standard for professional candy makers and bakers at the turn of the century.

What makes this Edition Special?

• Authentic 1914 Dating: While many H. Hueg books are undated reprints, this specific Long Island City edition is identified by its internal 1913 patent reference, firmly placing it in the pre-WWI era.

• Two Books in One: This volume serves as both a comprehensive Candy Maker’s Manual (featuring "well-tried" recipes for fondants, chocolates, and hard candies) and an Illustrated Catalog of vintage baking tools, molds, and machinery.

• Professional Secrets: Contains the exact processes used by early 20th-century confectioners, before the use of modern stabilizers and corn-syrup-heavy shortcuts.

• Industrial New York History: A beautiful piece of Long Island City (LIC) history, representing the borough's rich heritage as a hub for American food manufacturing.

The book is in Good Condition given its age. The pages have no writing or highlighting on them. The front cover of the book has a stain on the center image that has seeped through the book onto the first and second pages. All pages are completely readable. All of the pages are still firmly attached to the spine. There are two tiny tears on the edges of the front cover. The back cover is missing a tiny bit of the lower left hand corner. This wear and tear is common for heavily used kitchen books from this era. These original antique cookbooks still hold value for their historical charm.
