Description
I posted this item a few days ago as a lamp. I found out that someone had actually made this into a lamp and that it is common for people to make light fixtures out of antiques. The added items lowered the value drastically so I removed the lamp portion and realized that this piece was in perfect condition! Maybe just a few small knicks on the inside. Thanks to "prozak" who mentioned an artist "Angelo Minghetti" I found the artist's signature and it IS his work. I hear these pieces are rare and highly sought out in Italy? Can anyone give me a rough idea of what this is worth? It is very hard to find information on this artist in English online...

I have a Minghetti piece, and have done a ton of research on him as well; you're right, it's very hard to find any info on him in English, and apparently he is highly sought after in Italy. This definitely is Minghetti, though almost certainly was made after 1921 as the "Made in Italy" would suggest (Google McKinley tariff act/1921 amendment). Angelo Minghetti died around 1885, and this would have been made under the direction of his sons Arturo and Gennaro, or more likely Gennaro's son Aurelio and other Minghetti descendants. Minghetti maiolica is considered some of the finest examples of the Italian Renaissance revival period, when some of these great artists copied the style of the 16th and 15th century maiolica masters. Angelo started his factory around 1850. A beautiful piece, and I'm sure the right collector would love to have it. Hope this helps!
