Old ? powder? pistol with brass or bronze inlays, carvings and an axe at the handle

did you find any info on this gun... I just found like it , the axe is a little diff,, let me know thanx

Believe it or not - I have the same exact type of pistol. A friend of mine bought it at an antique store abot 25 years ago and gave it to me for a birthday present. I could never find out anything about it. Have you had any luck? Thanks

I know this is a very old post of yours but I have been researching pistol axes recently as I am a  blacksmith and custom maker of pieces of our history. The barrel appears to be bronze am I correct?  The lock screws have been replaced but from the pictures you listed the rest appears to be original. Pistol axes were invented in Sweden in great numbers back in the late 1600's and well into the 1700's and in several variations. I have never seen one quite like this one though and it does look a bit crude compared to other examples I have seen, it is possible that the axe head was added to the pistol at some point after the gun was made but very hard to tell from pictures. Typically versions were anywhere from 33" to a whopping 5' 1/2 feet. You can find some info on the in the book Boarders Away by William Gilkerson and wikipedia also has some info on them.
