Description
This Salvatore Ferragamo Firenze handbag is in excellent condition and was well taken care of. It was never used and seems very old. There is a small scrape on the back but other than that it is flawless. It was made in Italy and made of brown leather with the front being suede. I have no clue how old it really is because my grandmother passed away and I have no way of finding out
Re: Salvatore Ferragamo Firenze handbag
From a Lover of All-Things Ferragamo, this is a FABULOUS Piece!
This piece is special for 3 main reasons.
Positives:
1. The Gancini shaped hardware is very desirable. Because the bag doesn't have the Ferragamo logo all over it- Ferragamo rarely does this- many buyers wouldn't spend as much on a bag at this price point- because they wouldn't get the brand recognition that's typically desired when spending a significant amount of money on one previously owned piece.
The Gancini shaped hardware is going to offer the desirable Ferragamo brand recognition. (So, you will get more money!)
2. The original dust/ storage/ sleeper bag is fabulous because it is 1. original and buyers feel like they are getting the whole package, and 2. because it implies that the previous owner took care of the piece. This is especially important with regard to vintage/antique fashion pieces.
3. The written interior tag. This is one of two things.
A. It could be the serial no., style no., or inspection no. attached by the factory.
B. It could be a retail tag.
Both just add to the authenticity of the piece.
Negatives:
The obvious detraction is the scratch on the back of the bag. There are also some surface scratches on the front flap. Depending on how deep the back scratch is- it may be worth trying to polish it with light brown shoe polish- or neutral/clear polish. If it's super deep- don't mess with it. Just let any potential buyers know that they could take it to a shoe repair shop and have it removed.
If you are going to keep it for the long term, then you might consider taking it to a shoe/ leather repair shop or cobbler.
Additional Considerations:
It would be icing on the cake if you had the original retail tags or even the store receipt. (This is very rare- and doesn't hurt the value- it would just add to the value.)
The adjustable Strap is VERY charming and I would charge more for a bag with a convertible strap with the removable hardware (like yours) because it makes the bag convertible. It can go from daytime casual to nighttime/ formal in a flash. You can wear it over your shoulder or as a handheld "Lady Bag". It doesn't officially effect the value, but many collectors'/ buyers' would pay more for a convertible piece.
VALUE
Bag's like this are tough- there is definitely a range- not a specific number. The range is
$150.00-$225.00
I would estimate that in as-is condition, marketing the bag as: convertible, with dust bag, and with gancini hardware, the right buyer would pay $200.00.
If you fixed all of the scratches, cleaned the bag thoroughly, and marketed the bag with the specs listed above, the bag could sell for as much as $275.00-$315.00.
It's a great piece and your grandmother took excellent care of it! Congratulations!
