I purchased this item at a flea market in MA. The woman didn't know of it's origin. It was originally painted beige and a part of the paint fell off and I noticed the silver underneath. I then purchased professional paint remover at Home Depot and removed all the paint to find a beautiful unpolished bowl underneath. Although I used the paint remover, I did not polish the item because my research on the internet informed me that polishing and/or adding any chemical shine to it would reduce it's time period appearance.
I'd also like to note that I was not entirely sure what metal this bowl was made from, so I looked up how to confirm it was silver. I did the magnet test, of which it does not stick, and also an acid test which turned the sample area a dark grey, proving that it's silver acccording to my research.
The only print marking I can see is located on the bottom. It says "Made-Italy" in a rectangle shape. If anyone could please let me know what type of item this is, what period it is from, and possibly estimate a value I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time in this important matter.
