Soapstone Vase

By slkbenn, 22 May, 2010
Description

This is an interesting piece. Very detailed carvings, leaves, flowers attached to a solid piece which is the vase. The white blemishes seem to be like soap (scum)which soap leaves. Carvings also into the solid piece of flors and stems (the vase part). The bottom shows levels of carving with blemishes. The whole piece is brown with some spots of dark brown, tan, and black. In the pictures most of the black areas is actually shadows wher the carvings are attached to the vase.

Re: Soapstone Vase

I listed this 4 days ago. Does anyone know what it is? I was told soapstone, but I don't know for sure. Any suggestions?
