Re: Sweetheart military Camp Gordon purse satchel antique
What you have is called a "Pillow Pouch" for ladies to put letter's, hankie's or other things that were dear to them while thier sweetheart was at war. They would put these under their pillow to keep near as they slept. I'm not a expert in this, but thats the best decription I have heard. They were bought by military personnel (for the most part) and sent home to thier sweethearts ie: wife or girlfriend. These were made for gifts and labled Mother, Sister, Wife....
You can find many types of sweet heart items such as pillow cases, jewelry, compacts... it's amazing th e items you can find doing a search for them.
Yours was made for "Camp" Gordon, meaning it was probably made anywhere between 1917 to when the Camp was designated "Fort" Gordon in 1956. These pillowcase were very popular during WWII. Which is likely when it was sent to whomever it was intended.
The pillow cases sell from 10.00 to 20-30. Depending on how many are in exsistance, etc. The pouches I've seen for as little as 5.00 and up to 30.00.
Hope this helps you!
