Tiered, Wooden Furniture

I don't know if I would say it's in poor condition exactly, because I am no appraiser, but there is a significant chip and an area where the wood has come off (near the yellowish bottle). In addition, my cat has tried to use one of the piece's three legs as a scratch post, without any visible success, and the bottom tier is warped somehow. I do not know if that is a recent defect or not.

No clue how old it is, but I mostly want to know its history. Can someone fill in this information for me? I need to know if it's okay to chunk it prior to moving.
